Report an Incident Involving this Product WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Ace Bayou Corp., of New Orleans, La., are reannouncing the voluntary recall of about 2.2 million bean bag chairs sold from 1995 to 2013. Only 790 consumers, who purchased the bean bag chairs, have responded to the recall.  CPSC and Ace Bayou are urging consumers to install the free repair kit to permanently disable the bean bag chairs' zippers so that they cannot be opened. CPSC is extremely concerned that these recalled bean bag chairs are continuing to be used by children. The foam beads inside the chairs are serious suffocation and choking hazards for children.  Two children died after suffocating on the chair's foam beads. An additional incident has been reported to CPSC involving a 6 year old boy who opened bean bag and reportedly swallowed some foam beads and had others in his nose and mouth.

Ace met the voluntary standard's requirement for a warning label. They include round or L-shaped, vinyl or fabric, and are filled with polystyrene foam beads. They were sold in a variety of colors, including purple, violet, blue, red, pink, yellow, Kelly green, black, port, navy, lime, royal blue, turquoise, tangerine and multi-color.  The round bean bag chairs were sold in three sizes, 30, 32 and 40 inches in diameter.

The L-shaped bean bag chair measures 18 inches wide by 30 inches deep by 30 inches high. "ACE BAYOU CORP" is printed on a tag sewn into the bean bag chair's cover seam. They were made in China. , ,  and other websites from 1995 to 2013 for between $30 and $100. To prevent another death, consumers should check the outside zipper on their bean bag chair to ensure that it has a metal staple to disable the outer zipper. If it does not have a metal staple, take the recalled bean bag chair away from children immediately and contact Ace Bayou for the free repair kit to permanently disable the zipper. AHH: We meet UFAC class1, California TB 117E, California TB 117A.3, and CSPC Zipper Enclosure standards. AHH: Our virgin bead filling is comprised of aproximately 3mm wide, smooth, and perfectly round "bb's". Our regular reground filling is mainly 3-4mm wide, almost-round "bb's". Reground has some chunks of  "bb's" stuck together. If comparing to a shredded foam chair, is shredded foam easy to refluff?  We've sold replacement filling to customers to completely change out their foam filling because they say it is very hard to re-fluff a foam chair that has become compacted.

AHH:  We do not offer foam chairs. They are too "pillow-y" and do not feel like bean bags to us.  To re-fluff, just pick pick up and shake. Do you get discounts on refill? AHH: Ahh bean bag owners get $25 off refill. Are bean bag seams hidden and double-stitched for a high-end finished look? Or are they on the outside and easy to see? AHH: Ahh bean bags double seams will never break and are the most stylish in the industry...as attested to by interior decorators worldwide. Is there an inner liner bag to hold the filling so you can remove and wash the cover? Is the inner liner bag super-strong PLUS water-repellent PLUS made of light-weight microfiber? Most, if not all other companies use cheap,  thin, poly/cotton or cotton liners that eventually break and leak filling. AHH: We are the first company with a water-repel liner made of microfiber. "Weatherproof" coats are often made of the same material that we use.  Our liners will never rip or split or wear-out, yet are lightweight...even if they are used as landing pads.
