Domestic capacity will be increased by nearly a third with the redevelopment of the existing Qantas Club and the construction of a new Business Lounge plus a new invitation-only Chairman’s Lounge for VIPs and high-value customers.
The airline’s existing First and Business Class lounges at the International Terminal will also be redesigned into a single lounge facility with an expanded footprint. The work is a direct result of the continuing growth in regional Queensland and Australia, as well as the increasing demands of low-cost carrier airline operations. The satellite will be approximately 300m away from the existing DTB and will be linked via a walkway, including travelators. It will have 10 new boarding gates, as well as 2,000 square metres of space including passenger departure area, food, beverage, retail tenancies, amenities and service areas. Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has installed wet weather protection canopies across two face roads at the Domestic Terminal, as well as upgrading existing shelters at the Terminal Bus Stop and Taxi Ranks. The project delivered walkways linking the Terminal with passenger pick-up/drop-off areas and limousine services, new-look, more visible bus stops and upgraded and covered taxi rank areas. Virgin Australia’s significantly expanded Brisbane Domestic Lounge, new Premium Entry experience and enhanced valet service opened at the Domestic Terminal in September 2015, another landmark in the expansion and upgrade of VA facilities there.
Work began in late 2013 and has resulted in the Lounge doubling in size, the introduction of Premium Entry which enables kerbside direct entry into the Lounge and significant improvements to the VA Terminal, including additional aerobridges and expanded seating areas which provides guests with a place to wait and charge their devices with a number of power and USB points, lounge chairs and tables. “The three projects have been delivered to a high standard in a variety of complex environments, from the busy Domestic Terminal Forecourt through to the apron and airside roads,” said Airport Construction Project Director Steve Grant. It’s a sentiment shared by Virgin Australia, “The success of the three commercial projects delivered to date are testament to the collaborative relationship developed by the Virgin and BAC teams. We have a fourth project currently in concept phase with BAC and the team have taken on the challenge with the same spirit and enthusiasm,” said VA Project Director Kim Wilson.
