This collection highlights some the best designs from the 2500 national and international designers who were present at the 15th edition of this annual event to show their latest works and the best of what design has to offer. Katja Lucas, Program Manager of Dutch Design Week tells Archello: ‘’With this year’s theme of ‘The making of,’ we wanted to pay homage to the creator and the creative process, focusing on not only the final result but also on the research process. In this sense, DDW offers not only a glimpse behind the scenes, but also a preview. In line with a concept of making, the development of new materials was key this year. Zospeum unveiled their latest translucent concrete while Iwan Pol gives concrete a new twist as a tactile skin with his colourful series Happy Concrete. Olivier van Herpt won the New Material award with Functional 3D Printed Ceramics, while another big winner was the FLAX Chair by Christien Meindertsma.

This biobased design took the Future Award, a prize for the most promising design for the future. New ways and more sustainable ways of living were at the forefront with projects such as Tiny Tim, Home Away from Home winner Evolutionary Wooden Houses, and even the world’s first biocomposite pedestrian bridge. The ‘NO Waste Expo’ at the Klokgebouw location was also a highlight.
