To organise a collection simply call us at the office on 0113 2739727 (select option 2), let us know what you want to donate and we will offer you the next available time slot. We collect from all Leeds City Council areas, Monday-Friday except on public holidays. We recommend giving us 3-5 working days notice to avoid disappointment, but we will try our best to accommodate your needs. We ask that all furniture offered is in good condition, and soft furnishings (including mattresses, sofas and cushioned dining chairs) need fire safety labels attached – if you’re unsure what to look for we can advise you when you call.
Please do not be disappointed if we are unable to accept items for reasons of safety or quality. The final decision is at the discretion of our van drivers at point of collection. What we typically collect We re-use most major household furniture items, and in particular our clients are always in need of the basics: sofas, beds, bedroom storage, tables, chairs and other living room furniture. Unfortunately we cannot collect any electrical appliances or white goods, so we recommend trying the other furniture reuse charities in Leeds if you have any of those. However, we also gratefully receive smaller household items in addition to furniture donations, especially bedding, curtains, towels, crockery, cutlery, pans and mirrors. Where your furniture goes The vast majority of furniture donated to us is re-donated to people on low incomes or state benefits. People who receive our furniture have to be referred our list of approved referral agencies, so you can be sure your furniture is making a big difference to people who are really struggling or in significant financial need.
Only items that are unsuitable to give away (e.g. are too big or rarely requested) are sold at a charity shop run by St George’s Crypt, profits from which go back into both charities. We're proud of the close links we forge between our Partners and local schools, charities and organisations. And wherever we do business, at home or abroad, we work with communities to make a difference. Our Community Matters programme in our shops continues to support local charities and community groups. We aim to give at least 1% of pre-tax profits to community initiatives. We will continue to seek out projects that support the John Lewis Foundation at home and abroad. If you'd like to nominate a good cause for Community Matters please complete the nomination form and take it to the Customer Services department. The charities we're supporting from October 2016 - January 2017 are: Care & Repair - Care & Repair work across Leeds with the aim of improving the homes and lives of older and disabled people to support them to live independently and safely in their own homes. The donation will contribute to the Hardship Fund which is used to assist people in greatest need to maintain their independence and quality of life.
Lineham Farm - Lineham Farm provides a safe haven for under privileged children in Leeds, offering Monday-Friday activity holidays with home-cooked food throughout the week. The donation will go towards an exciting new activity course called 'The Mucky Mile' which will be built across three fields using materials sourced from Lineham Farm woods. St. Gemma's Hospice - St. Gemma's Hospice is the largest hospice in Yorkshire, providing the best possible care and quality of life for local people with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. The donation will go towards St. Gemma's expert services and support for patients, their families and friends. Since the introduction of the law requiring retailers to charge for single-use carrier bags, our charity, the John Lewis Foundation, has been responsible for distributing the proceeds to UK charities. We’ve aimed to choose charities closely aligned with the principles of the Foundation, supporting activities that promote education and inclusion, and enable employment.
