House Speaker Joe Straus named new chairmen for 19 of the chamber’s 30 committees and then added two special panels, one to deal with legislation affecting ports and the other to examine the role federal power plays in state government. State Rep. Joe Moody, D-El Paso, was named chairman of the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, while state Rep. Joe Pickett, D-El Paso, was moved out the chairman’s seat on the powerful Transportation Committee. Pickett will instead lead the committee on Environmental Regulation. Pickett, who recently assembled a 1927 Model T in his office, is known for his passion for transportation.
