When deciding what table and chair set to buy you will need to consider the size of the room and how it will be used. It is also worth making sure that the set matches the colour scheme of the room. Most table and chair sets are made from solid woods or various metals, but plastic sets are available. Solid wood furniture is a popular choice for most people as they look more natural. Whereas metal table and chair sets tend to be quite popular because they are sturdy and hardwearing. These table and chair sets are a lot heavier than plastic sets and are more of a permanent fixture. Plastic table and chair sets are easy to care for and clean. When compared to many wood and metal sets, they are relatively lightweight and easy to move around. To clean and maintain a plastic table and chair set, simply wipe them down with a damp cloth and dry with a non abrasive material. Table and chair sets with four chairs is the most common seating arrangement, but it is possible to buy sets with two chairs, six chairs or even more.
Fold away chairs and tables are available for smaller dining rooms and kitchens. Most sets feature a square, rectangular or round table. Each room will suit a different shape of table depending on the size of space available and the layout. Rectangular tables are often better suited to seat a large number of people and can look better in long rooms. If space is an issue, a drop leaf table could be a good idea. This style has sides that fold down creating more room space when not in use. For drop leaf tables, the leaf will usually either be in a semi-circle or rectangle shape. This means that when the table is at its biggest size, it will either be oval or rectangular in shape. Extender tables have an added piece of wood that's placed in the middle of the table to give a larger seating area. When the extender piece is not in use, the table area is smaller giving a space saving option for the room. We value your donations and the stories those items hold.  To make use of your donations we ask that you not drop them off after hours.
Unfortunately, when this happens, many of the items are taken, destroyed or damaged by people and weather. Thank you for your understanding! All Goes to Good! The second hand resale market is a very competitive industry.  More and more FOR profit businesses and charities are getting on board.  where to buy a folding rocking chairIt's important for you, our valued customers and donors to understand the difference.ikea egg chair red As a charity we rely solely on donated goods.  eames office chair pinkWe do not purchase liquidated items or used items.  We are also predominantly a volunteer run thrift shop.  Compared to the number of our volunteers (around 300), our paid staff is but a few. All of our proceeds, after expenses, go to Mennonite Central Committee Ontario for their relief, development and peace work they do here at home, in our communities and around the world.
To say we appreciate the generosity of our donors and volunteers is an understatement and indeed we could not operate our thrift shop without you. We also deeply appreciate the ongoing support of our local community and shoppers.  We value the ways that we can partner with local agencies to meet the needs of individuals and families, keep items out of the Regional landfill and to enrich our community. Thank you for choosing to make a difference in the lives of others by shopping, donating and volunteering with us. You've Kept Us Busy! You've been keeping us exceptionally busy this year with furniture pick-ups... thank you! Our volunteers and truck go out Tuesdays and Thursdays to pick up furniture.  We have very well organized donors who have been booking well in advance this fall.  So, if you're planning a move, getting new furniture or are tired of that piece of furniture you keep bumping into, please call us 3 to 4 weeks in advance to ensure a booking.
Just a reminder, we pick up quality furniture pieces from your home which are in good, saleable condition.  Unfortunately, we don't have the appropriate space, zoning or volunteers to fix or do a heavy cleaning of furniture.  Therefore, we ask that upholstered furniture not have any rips or heavy stains and comes from a smoke free, pet free home.  Some other items we don't pick up/sell are: large appliances, large televisions and wall units (unless they are made of SOLID wood). We ask that you drop off all household articles to the shop at 50 Kent Ave., Kitchener.  Due to the truck's schedule, furniture is jam packed in the truck, which does not allow for household items and clothing to be picked up. Once again, thank you for allowing us to resell your furniture, keeping it out of the landfill and helping us to help others. Yard Sale Season is in full swing!  After a day in the sun, haggling over dishes, clothes and treasures, we often see tired donors dropping off their yard sale left overs at our donation doors.
As a thrift shop, we really appreciate quality items which have been overlooked at your yard sale.  However, we are not able to accept everything. Donations Make Silent Auction We are fortunate to have donors who trust us to honour their donations in the best way possible.  We appreciate what's handed to us at the back door and want to get the most for it, enabling us to pass the proceeds on to Mennonite Central Committee's programs. A great example of some of the treasures we receive is this donated 1956 Gibson Sunburst Electric Guitar in very good condition.  It currently sits in our Silent Auction where we hope to garner hundreds of dollars for MCC programs.  If you have treasures to pass along, please consider dropping them off to us. And if you'd like to place a bid, drop by Thrift On Kent before this beauty is gone to the highest bidder. In addition to our furniture pick-ups, we now deliver furniture twice weekly here at Thrift On Kent.  Your donations make a difference!
