In fact, the older it gets the most valuable it should be as it becomes an antique, with lots of character and details that are unique to its era. Still, this doesn’t mean that it has to remain intact and that you can’t change its appearance. There are ways to preserve the character of the chair while making it better integrate into your home’s décor. It can all be solved with a makeover. A very simple idea would be to dip the bottom portions of the chair’s feet in paint, just to add a little bit of color to the piece.
Use tape to delimitate the areas and then use spray paint in any color you prefer. Preferably it should be a bold or neon shade, something that contrasts with the rest of the chair. In addition to painting the feet of the chair you could also change the upholstery on the seat if there is any to work with in the beginning. This is a patchwork design make with leftover pieces of fabric. For an even more colorful and cheerful appearance here’s another interesting idea. You can use ribbon in different color to create a rainbow design for the upholstery. Pin the ribbon pieces and then sew them in zigzags. Another way of using ribbon is to simply cut smaller pieces, all the same size, and then to tie them at the back of the chair. Use different shades of the same color for a subtle yet strong effect. It’s a perfect idea for a wedding chair. Geometric patterns are very popular and you can use this hint if you want to make a chair look more modern. Choose fabric featuring a geometric pattern in any color combination you want and replace the upholstery of the chair.
Another more unusual way of reviving an old chair is by using old leather belts. It’s a design that works better for outdoor chairs and the belts will give it a more vintage look. If, on the other hand, you want to experiment new designs using paint and color, you could try an ombre design. Choose three different colors, one that’s light, one that’s bold and one that’s dark and paint the chair one shade at a time. You can also use paint in all sorts of other ways. For example, this chair has the seat painted in black and white with a chevron pattern and the backrest and the feet a nice turquoise shade. The colors complement each other beautifully. Here’s another nice combination of colors. Depending on the design of your chair, you can come up with all sorts of combinations of colors and patterns.A French inspired design, the Furniture Classics LTD French Country Ladderback Side Chair (Set of 2) is sure to garner admiration from family and friends.
