Linens: Students must provide their own linens and should have at least two sets so that bed linens may be changed and laundered weekly. Laundry can be dropped off daily at the post office in the Simon Student Center, but will only be picked up and delivered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The Academy post office also maintains a relationship with an agency for dry cleaning. The school is not responsible for lost or damaged laundry. Other furnishings: Each student is expected to have the following: a pillow, a bedspread, a washable mattress protector, a laundry bag, two sets of towels, desk lamp (halogen lamps are not permitted, and we encourage the use of compact fluorescent bulbs), a wastepaper basket, and a closed container and utensils for any food kept in a room. (Recycle bins are located on each dormitory floor.) Rugs: One large rug or two medium-sized rugs not to exceed 9 x 12 feet will be permitted in each room.

Rugs may not be placed on top of one another. Any rugs or other furniture must be in good repair. Wall hangings and decorations: No fabric wall covering may be used unless it is of fire-retardant material. All traffic, street, or other public information or safety signs, no matter how obtained, are inappropriate as room decorations. Posters, signs, or other objects which display or promote alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs are not permissible on campus. In addition, posters, signs and other objects on display in students’ rooms must be in good taste and not offensive (for example, posters displaying sexual activity or photos with male or female exposed “private” body parts are not allowed). Faculty and other dormitory personnel reserve the right to order the removal of material deemed inappropriate for any reason. Curtains: Students furnish their own window curtains. There are blinds or shades in each student dormitory room. Safety and Energy Concerns Wattage and Lighting: The total wattage of all bulbs in any student room must not exceed 600 watts. 

Students may not use halogen lamps. We encourage students to use compact fluorescent bulbs and energy-efficient lamps. Christmas-type lights and projectors are prohibited. Wiring: Sound equipment will be permitted. However, all wiring to these must be kept in good mechanical and electrical repair. The installation of any outside antenna or wiring on the buildings, windows, chimneys, or trees will not be permitted. No wiring other than the cords attached to lamps, radios, or sound equipment should be used. If a cord is too short to reach the table or desk from the wall outlets, an extension cord is permissible. Appliances: No student may have cooking appliances, refrigerators, television sets, or monitors other than one computer monitor per student, except that dormitory prefects and peer group leaders may have approved cooking appliances and refrigerators for their personal use with a maximum of two approved appliances per room. Computers and printers are allowed. Phones: Cell phone use is allowed within designated guidelines.
