Similar to the Couch Potato, but with a wider tail and a lower overall rocker." Matt Biolos from … Lost Bean Bag PU/Poly 4'10"Lost Bean Bag may look similar to its relative the …Lost Couch Potato when comparing photos, but that’s where the similarities end. The Bean Bag has a wider nose and tail, plus a flatter rocker throughout. The flat deck, full rails and high volume per its length turn “no-go” days into a blast and average days into “all-timers”.

This board can be ridden incredibly short, as the rounded nose starts off wide and carries its width all the way out the tail. The flat rocker combined with tip-to-tail vee produce a board that glides like mad, but possess a maneuverability and looseness not found on other boards this full and straight in their curves. Bean Bag Tec Specs: • Wide nose, mid width and tail • Tip to tail vee bottom shape • Flat deck with full rails • This board PACKS volume per its length, so don’t be afraid to go SHORT There are a lot of flat, wide, floaty boards on the racks these days. What impressed us about the Bean Bag was its easy paddling, great speed, PLUS the insane maneuverability normally not found on a board like this. The only way to describe how loose this board is to imagine turning a round-bottomed Frisbee. It’s fast out of the gate, likes different parts of the wave and different approaches to your standard turns and loves to be ridden short. Since the board has a full-length vee bottom, it likes to be ridden with more volume compared to a concave bottomed board – at least 10% more is a good rule of thumb.

This is my shortest board in my quiver, yet is still at the high end of what I ride in volume, so look more at the volume than at the length if you’re looking for a second opinion on what size to get. If you only look at the length, you will trip yourself out and probably end up getting one that’s too big. This leads us to a good question, “Can you ride the Bean Bag big?”. While I normally ride the 5’8" at 43 liters, I got the chance to ride a 5’10 at 47 liters at Upper Trestles. The result of the extra length and foam made catching waves easier since I was able to sit further out than everyone. The board also had incredible “static glide” when over sized, meaning it would just go on it’s own especially higher up on the wave. The downside was that you lost the magic maneuverability glowing in the correct sized board. The larger Bean Bag was still "carvey" and could snap a turn when needed, it just lost the “be anywhere, go anywhere” looseness that one size down provided.

Is going too big the “wrong” choice? Some people like super easy paddling and competitive wave catching so for those people the answer would be no, it’s not the wrong choice. If you are looking for the ultimate in small wave domination that includes being loose and all over the wave at a moments notice, then go with the volume numbers and disregard how short you end up, you will love it. We’ve ridden this board with three different sets of fins: Simon Anderson Quads, AM2 Quads and Lost Seaworthy Controllers in Honeycomb Fiberglass. If you’re riding a wave that needs no extra down the line drive/speed, then the first two fins work great and provide a touch of extra looseness as well. The Seaworthy Controllers give a nice extra spring out of the turns that provide you with more down the line speed for making sections. The tip to tail vee is really easy to lay into a turn and the board is incredibly loose for what you would normally think looking at a wide board like this, and the Seaworthies didn’t “tighten” up the board noticeably at all, just provided extra speed, which in small surf is a good thing.
